Resurgent Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in 882 Days
Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his first trophy for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The athlete, a former number one, has endured a challenging year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the American major.
Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with former mentor his previous coach.
Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.
It is the player's initial title since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court since spring of the previous year.
Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct events.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, comprising in that event earlier this year.
Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular reactions on court had prompted commentators to doubt if his skill to play at the elite level was over.
Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced service.
Medvedev fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging opponent, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.
Both players traded break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to create a decider.
He defended four initial chances in a close final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Appropriately, he earned victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
