The fast bowler Expected to Feature a Key Part in Iconic Rivalry

Test match action

The Australian skipper has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 five-day games with an stellar bowling average.

Australia's selection chief the selector has confirmed that captain Pat Cummins will play a "major part" in the upcoming England-Australia contest.

Speculation had been growing that the 32-year-old might be unavailable due to a stress fracture in his back that had not yet healed.

Previous updates from the Australian camp suggested no definitive call had been made regarding whether he would play, with the Test matches set to start on 21 November in Perth.

The selector shared that the captain is progressing and remained hopeful about the prospects of being involved.

"We know that the window is narrowing and multiple considerations at play, not just the back issue, but additional elements," Bailey remarked.

"It's positive. There's strong faith that he'll participate in a key capacity. Ideally from the opening match. Should that not happen, we'll reassess."

Past Concerns

Cummins was ruled out the white-ball matches against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals recently after medical tests showed a lower back issue.

He has a history of recurring issues, with recurrences in several earlier campaigns forcing him out of three Australian summers in a limited period.

Cummins stated he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his rehabilitation process to secure his spot for the Ashes.

He mentioned that he did not know if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his rehabilitation but acknowledged it was "becoming urgent" for him to regain fitness for the opener.

Contingency Plans

In case of absence, former captain Steve Smith will take over the captaincy.

All-rounder Cameron Green was excluded lately from Australia's squad for their limited-overs matches against the subcontinent side as a safety move because of soreness in his side.

He labeled it as a "minor" injury and confirmed that Green will play in the state-level matches, so will be "in a good place to be ready to bowl."

"We put so much time has gone into creating the schedule for him to take part for the opening match as an dual-role player," the selector detailed.

"His involvement was limited to the starting games in any case. The way he swings the willow in shorter formats, if it causes any delay for a short period, the choice was made to take a cautious route."
